Young - New Photography in Swiss Art

The 90's have seen an incomparable boom in photography. The most significant positions in international art have been taken using this medium. It would appear that photography has been able to develop an amplitude in its double role a documentation of reality and created medial image reflects the themes current at the end of this century.

This boom has not been held up by international borders. Exhibitions explicitly dedicated to photographic work within the geographic limitations of 'Switzerland’ have presented a multitude attitudes and images in the 90's. Still, we were surprised to come across more than 150 interesting young artists who work with photography, thanks to many tips, during the course of our research for "Young". We have generally selected the quite young and less well known ones, who have only recently entered into the field or are still attending a school. You will be surprised at the variety provided by the (mostly female) essentialists, intimists, examiners of identity and body, actors and actresses, media surfers, landscapers and strollers! (For the exhibition, a catalogue is being published by the Christoph Merian Verlag.)
